Had a massive power outage Saturday. No power for four hours. Tornado went through Raleigh again. Wasn’t as bad as last time. I’m actually surprised my mom wasn’t blowing up my cell phone or my inbox. The thing apparently passed right over RDU airport, which is right down the road.
Personally, my favorite part of the whole ordeal was the fact that the power went out while I was watching The Day After Tomorrow — a movie about storms! I just love the symmetry there.
But he had little time to dwell on his shortcomings before David latched onto his arm yelling, “Come on, come on! Daddy’ll want to thank you!” He started trying to drag Amara, Sir Lionel and thus the horse in his wake, never realizing his statement had squeezed out Sir Lionel’s last remaining hope that he might be given the opportunity to heal Amara’s heart.

My heart pounded in my throat as David led us to the center of the city. Wood and thatch buildings changed to stone. Castle Sandulf loomed in the background, growing large as we walked, eventually engulfing the entire horizon. Even though I’d grown up in a castle, my father a king, Castle Sandulf was an intimidating structure. From outside the city, the castle stood tall over the walls, dwarfing them and instilling a sense of dread in all those who approached.

I loved the description of the castle… I felt the dread and foreboding! Great snippet 🙂

Oh, goodie! Especially nice since I know I sometimes get so into the action I forget about some of the detail.

Interesting. Can’t wait to see what happens when he finds out that David is not Amara’s child.

Your comment got my brain working a bit. Angles! I love angles!

Fascinating turn. And she doesn’t think of that castle as home, it seems.
Danielle Forrest
Well, it’s not home. In fact, for all she knows, she could be walking into a situation as bad, if not worse than the one she left.

That poor patient horse. LOL I have visions of David trying to drag it into the house too.
That castle sounds quite foreboding…
Danielle Forrest
LOL, you made me laugh with the comment on the horse.

I am, enjoying this tremendously and always want to know more. Today’s snippet was startling but much more to be revealed, I’m sure. Our knight shouldn’t give up yet. Terrific excerpt!
Danielle Forrest
I am definitely going to have to write a much larger role for the knight than originally intended. I love getting reader feedback!

Nicely done, Danielle. I liked his dread and her acknowledgement of her home’s imposing image. 🙂

Tantalising snippet.

But Amara is not David’s mother, I wonder why he didn’t realise that yet.
