“I didn’t exactly sign up for this,” Jacob grumbled under his breath.

“Oh, shut up,” the woman next to him said. She glared at him, clearly tired of his antics.

Jacob sighed, getting back to the task at hand. “Can we take a break or something?”

“No,” everyone said at once.

He grunted, sinking further into his seat like a petulant child.

The door opened, and Grace Harper walked in. “I’m back.” She walked slowly, being careful as she took her seat across the table from him. Her body was stiff, held awkwardly like even the slightest of movement would hurt. She smirked at him. “Been up to no good again, Jacob?”

“Oh, lay off it, Grace.”

“Can we get back to business? I’m sorry I couldn’t be here sooner. The doctors just released me. My head’s killing me, I can barely move, and I’ll probably be useless, but I’m here. What have I missed?”
