I believe I did fairly well this month. I’ve been working hard, but not too hard, and am well on my way to getting an extra 2 weeks into my schedule, which should give me sufficient buffer to account for the miscellaneous tasks that always sneak up on me right before a launch.
I also did a lot of Continuing Education this month, my most recent being a course on creating cover art (I love Photoshop). I’m really excited about getting started with that as I find working on cover art and cover files a nice break from editing.
Tristan’s Choice launched this month, so if you haven’t checked it out, I encourage you to do so. It’s vastly improved from its first draft (even added an additional 15k words) and I feel like I did a real good job with the characters. Though fewer reviews in total, it has a better average rating than Mila’s Shift.
Also, starting in 2021, I’m shifting my publication schedule to February/June/October instead of January/May/September. This is to work around the challenges of trying to get the paper editions of my books proofed in time during the holidays, which was too tight a squeeze for my comfort (the proof copies arrived days before the launch and if anything had been sufficiently wrong, I would have had no time to fix them).
Lessons Learned:
- Don’t be afraid of the size of a task when the steps are small.
- Getting proof copies printed around the holidays is a PAIN.
