Progress Post: Delays…

The Kindle version is all squared away for Matched to the Alien Prince to launch tomorrow. Nobody has to worry about that. But I am getting severely frustrated with the print versions. I am all good to go. I have everything ready and waiting (I finished the cover files this week). All I have to do is add the Library of Congress number, export, and upload the interior files. Then of course, there’s waiting on proofs.

Unfortunately, it’s now been 2 weeks waiting on the LCCN and still no progress. Last week I responded to the email they sent confirming they’ve received my request. No response. This week, I submitted a query on their website. Unfortunately, I can’t expect a response for at least five days. I… want to strangle someone. It’s just a friggin number. It could literally be automated. Why does it take two weeks? I just don’t understand this. This is ridiculous.

Moving on, I finished writing the bonus scene for Matched to the Alien Prince. If you are a member of my mailing list, it will be available to you for free.

I’ve also started planning out the serial. I’ve come up with the basic concept for the first few episodes. I’m still trying to decide what will make a reasonable number of episodes per season. We’ll see how it goes.

On Sunday, I had some fun. I started playing around with redoing the cover design for Shifting Loot because I’ve never been happy with it. When I created that cover, I just wasn’t skilled enough yet to create the metal skin the character had (Teaches me to create character description BEFORE the cover. Never again.). So instead of using adjustment layers and stuff to create the appearance of metallic skin, I decided to try painting. This is absolutely NOT in my wheelhouse. My past in visual arts is constrained to photography, photomanipulation, and tracing (as a child). I’m starting to learn to draw, but I certainly suck. And when I started painting after watching and reading some tutorials, I still sucked, until I discovered the mixer brush in Photoshop and fell in love. I’m so proud of what I’ve done so far. It’s not done yet, and I’m discovering that my suspected face blindness is mucking things up, but I’m so happy with how the arm and ear came out. I don’t even really know how to use the mixer brush with intention yet but it looks so good! I included some images below of my progress. Don’t they look amazing? That’s me painting! I’m so excited!

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for today. Hopefully, the thing with the Library of Congress is resolved by next week.

Until next time,

Danielle
