Planning a New Series…

So, I recently got in a conversation with a coworker that made me remember an idea from a while ago that largely slipped from my mind. She insisted that I needed to write it ASAP.

Unfortunately, I already have a lot of plans ahead, and I’m not sure I write fast enough to publish two series at once. I also don’t have a good enough grasp of the world-building for this new idea to get started writing books in it. For now, I had the idea of just publishing short stories here on the website until I’m ready to go full steam ahead.

So what was the idea?

I’ve always loved mythology, so I’m going to be working on a series retelling ancient myths using a Science Fiction setting. Still coming up with the ideas, but I’m thinking I’m going to start using Norse mythology (I’m going to have to brush up on my Norse myths as I’m far more familiar with Greek myths, but there’s just always been something that drew me to Norse myths so…).

Gods and giants play important roles in those stories, and they will be represented by alien races. I also have this half-baked plan to have a species from another planet be based on Greek mythology and there’s this sort of rivalry between the Norse and the Greeks.

Do you have a favorite character?

I’ve always been a bit weird in that I tend to zero in on strange or obscure players (e.g. Jord who is only ever referenced in passing as the mother of Thor and daughter of Nott and Anarr). I kind of like the obscure ones because I can make up whatever story I want for them, giving me a more blank slate.

Although, I’ve always had a soft spot for Loki (Have any of you watched Mattantei Loki Ragnarok? Love that show!), who is just so playful and troublesome (and I’ve always felt sorry for him because the punishments always felt way worse than the crimes).

What about you? Who’s your favorite?
