It’s a new year…

Welcome to 2019!  I’m not usually the type to make new year’s resolutions, but I last year I decided that I needed to make changes and I did.  I didn’t make a specific goal like losing a specific amount of pounds, but I wanted to change things for the better.

I decided I was going to break some bad habits and form some good ones.  It took me 2 months to pick some goals, but I lost 25 pounds last year, so I would say that was a success!

I’ve always believed that new year’s resolutions don’t work, largely because I felt that it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.  We have a history of failing, and as such, we assume from the start we won’t succeed and then when we don’t we feel justified in our failure.

This year, my goals are as follows:

  • Publish Mila’s Flight, a ~18k word novella, to my mailing list
  • Publish Mila’s Shift to Amazon
  • Reach 175 lbs

I’ve set myself up with goals that have MASSIVE amounts of wiggle room, so I should be able to hit the goals even if I have big road blocks.  In the past, I’ve failed time and time again because I try to apply the same goal-setting to my home life that I do to work.  But with work, I can focus on work.  With home, my focus is divided, and that often spells disaster if your goals are too ambitious.

You can follow on my website to see how I’m doing.  I’m already ahead with editing Mila’s Flight. I’ve finished the second draft (break even deadline for that draft was end of January) and am almost finished with the third.  Mila’s Shift is mostly finished and already has a beautiful book cover.  Once I finish editing Mila’s Flight and start working on Mila’s Shift again, I anticipate, at worst, it will take no more than 2 months to finish.

My goal is to have Mila’s Shift available on Kindle Unlimited by the end of the year.
